On Trend: Thick Countertops
At Valencia Countertops, we’re all about helping our customers stay on trend and love their countertops for the years ahead.
Quartz countertops are a stunning choice—one of our most requested, in fact. It’s available in many customizable options, including depth and thickness.
That brings us to one of the top trends we’re seeing in 2023: thick countertops.
Customizable Countertop Depth
The standard depth for countertops is 2 centimeters. However, 3 centimeters is becoming more popular. The industry standard in kitchens is 3 and in bathrooms is 2.
With that said, preferences and trends are always evolving. Something that’s grown in demand in the last few years is thick countertops. In fact, 4-centimeter countertop depth is making its way to the standard position for kitchens.
On countertops or islands, some designs even implement 6 centimeters or thicker.
When choosing your design, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind. First, you’ll want to make sure there’s enough clearance between your countertops and your upper cabinets—particularly when it comes to appliances or other items you’ll be placing on your counters.
Similarly, keep in mind having enough room for seating at barstools with your countertop or kitchen island height.
Thicker slabs will obviously be more expensive, so budget is another element to think about. These slabs are also heavier so you’ll want to be sure that structurally the cabinets or vanity beneath can support the weight.
Quartz countertops are an excellent choice for this thicker trend due to the beauty of their texture and veining that can be highlighted with a thicker slab. Quartz is also lighter compared to other materials like granite, making it ideal for heavier cuts.
